Making the Grade
This is our side yard as viewed from the front porch. At the end of last winter, in preparation for the fence installation, we had a large pine tree removed that was located between the tree and the corner of the fence.
The neighboring lot and our yard had merged into one landscape. So I have drawn the line in the sand to reclaim what is ours.
I raked and cleared all the debris; the rocks, sticks, weeds, broken glass, building materials, old plumbing and auto parts.
This is the same side of the house towards the back. Pieces of glass still surface here. There's just not enough good soil for the grass to get a hold of.
I am hoping that with the aid of fortified compost these areas will be built up with about six inches of fertile loam. The top of that grade is the top of the second course of bricks to the right of the tree.
I can see a soft, fluffy turf filling this area to overflowing. I don't think I could buy this and have it quick. I believe that I can make it, but it will take some time. When it is done I should really know my stuff.
