Pile Enrichment - Trial #1
I have applied lime, clay, cow manure and sand to my compost pile. I just got the stuff in sacks and poured them on the top.
I purchased 2- 40# sacks of composted manure, 2- 70# sacks of all purpose sand, 1- sack of lime and 2- sacks ground clay packaged as kitty litter.
Manure......$ 3.00 ~ Home Depot
Sand..........$ 6.50 ~ Home Depot
Lime..........$ 4.50 ~ Home Depot
Clay..........$ 5.50 ~ Walmart
______________
Total $ 19.50
I am thinking that a certain percentage of the pile's composition is ready to be harvested. My next action will be to cut about three feet off one end of the pile and run it through a succession of sieves into the steel tub.
I plan to use first a 1" screen, then a 1/2" screen and finally a 1/4" screen. This separation process will yield four grades of material. I have many doubts at this stage, but I am going to press on with the original idea and see where that leads me.
