I Like A Nice, Neat Edge

I edged the rest of the back fence. This is the third time I set up and edged. The first time was a struggle. The second time was easier, and this time was not difficult at all.

It is hard at first, but one thing leads to another and life gets better and easier. Part of my idea of cutting a definite edge between the gravel and the grass was to make mowing it easier and eliminate the need to for a string trimmer in this area.

Before I went after this area with the idea of a definite shape or contour I felt that it would be too hard to actually achieve. But taking little bites at the problem over time have led me to discoveries which make the project feasible. In the bottom photo I have the edge cut and the fill screened. Later I would return the screened fill and rake a grade between the grass and the bottom of the fence.

I spread a couple of yards of material here prior to the fence installation as a guide for the installers. I want some of it back to use elsewhere. On the outside I want to shape a shallow rain gutter. By doing this I think I could recover about four or five wheel barrows worth of the gravel screenings. I can always find better places to use that.
